Who is a Survivor?
Last week, the Smithsonian Magazine featured an article by Emmanuela Grinberg, in which the author examined the developed of the notion of ‘survivor’. She showed how the definition of Holocaust survivor has changed over time, and been shaped by cultural and political circumstances.
The article discusses my research, specifically an article I wrote in 2017 on the Katsetler Farband, the United Jewish Survivors of Nazi Persecution, in which I trace the founding and development of this small organization of Polish-Jewish survivors in New York, founded in 1946, the first survivor organization in the United States. Here’s the PDF of that article. You can find PDFs of some of my other scholarly work in the Publications tab above.
Anyway, it’s a treat to see my work cited in a major publication, so I’m excited to share it.
